An exhibition titled May We? to be held at Maroondah Federation Art Estate (MFAE) from 30 March - 15 May 2026.

It will include contributions by about 20 artists and have a number of public programs including a wonderful opening with the enriching words of our guest speaker Janty Blair, a print workshop and artists talk.

May We? is a collective act of resistance against the continued subjugation of women, reclaiming the radical origins of both Mother’s Day and May Day. While Mother’s Day is often softened into a commercial celebration of gratitude and care, many of us experience the stark contrast of undervalued labor, unpaid work, and restrictive expectations tied to gender and motherhood.

The show will challenge societal expectations that cast reproduction, fertility, and gender as prescriptive roles and recognise that motherhood is not a singular experience but a deeply individual one, and that womanhood, in all its forms, is never defined by the presence or absence of children.
